Role Overview

The Accounts Payable Officer will be responsible for the end-to-end processing of payments and financial transactions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with regulatory and internal standards. This role plays a key part in maintaining financial discipline and supporting Smartcash PSB’s operational integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process vendor invoices, staff retirements, and payment requests in compliance with internal policies and regulatory bodies such as the CBN and NDIC.

  • Prepare accurate payment vouchers, initiate bank transfers, and issue cheques on schedule.

  • Maintain the accounts payable ledger, ensuring proper expense classification and documentation.

  • Work closely with procurement and other departments to ensure thorough documentation and necessary approvals.

  • Track and remit withholding taxes to the FIRS and state tax authorities on time.

  • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation.

  • Drive improvements in accounts payable processes to boost efficiency and enhance internal controls.

  • Reconcile vendor statements, resolve discrepancies, and maintain good supplier relationships.

  • Contribute to month-end and year-end closing processes, including accruals and audit preparation.

  • Monitor adherence to approved budgets and flag significant variances.

Key Performance Indicators

  • 98% accuracy rate in payment processing

  • Compliance with vendor agreements and tax remittance schedules

  • Minimal payment/posting errors

  • Timely processing and aging control of payables

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong understanding of financial and regulatory compliance

  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office tools

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and meet strict deadlines
