We are currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the following role:

Role Overview

The Accounts Payable Officer will be responsible for the end-to-end processing of payments and financial transactions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with regulatory and internal standards. This role plays a key part in maintaining financial discipline and supporting Smartcash PSB’s operational integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Process vendor invoices, staff retirements, and payment requests in compliance with internal policies and regulatory bodies such as the CBN and NDIC.
Prepare accurate payment vouchers, initiate bank transfers, and issue cheques on schedule.
Maintain the accounts payable ledger, ensuring proper expense classification and documentation.
Work closely with procurement and other departments to ensure thorough documentation and necessary approvals.
Track and remit withholding taxes to the FIRS and state tax authorities on time.
Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation.
Drive improvements in accounts payable processes to boost efficiency and enhance internal controls.
Reconcile vendor statements, resolve discrepancies, and maintain good supplier relationships.
Contribute to month-end and year-end closing processes, including accruals and audit preparation.
Monitor adherence to approved budgets and flag significant variances.

Key Performance Indicators

98% accuracy rate in payment processing
Compliance with vendor agreements and tax remittance schedules
Minimal payment/posting errors
Timely processing and aging control of payables

Qualifications and Skills

Strong understanding of financial and regulatory compliance
Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office tools
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work cross-functionally and meet strict deadlines
