Ecobank and Heave Ventures Launch InnovateX to Empower Young Nigerian Innovators in STEM and the Creative Industry

Ecobank Nigeria, in partnership with Heave Ventures, has launched InnovateX, a dynamic competition aimed at empowering young Nigerians aged 16 to 25 with a passion for creativity and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). The initiative seeks to close the gap between talent and enterprise by providing participants with the tools, training, and exposure needed to transform their ideas into impactful ventures.

Unveiled in Lagos, InnovateX is open to a diverse pool of young talents — from designers, artists, and content creators in the creative economy to developers, engineers, and tech enthusiasts in the STEM sector. The top 10 finalists across both categories will share a prize pool of ₦20 million, alongside mentorship and career development opportunities.

Speaking at the launch, Bolaji Lawal, Managing Director and Group Executive of Ecobank Nigeria, described InnovateX as more than a contest. “This is part of our larger mission to drive innovation and entrepreneurship among African youth,” he said. “We’re providing a platform that nurtures creative thinking and fosters sustainable business development.”

The program includes hybrid bootcamps, personalized mentorship, pitch coaching, and intensive business development training. Finalists will also have the chance to showcase their projects at a high-profile grand finale event. The goal is to transform passion and raw talent into viable, market-ready solutions that can drive change.

Participants in the creative track will receive hands-on guidance on turning their artistic skills into scalable businesses, covering key topics such as branding, marketing, intellectual property, and monetization. Those in the STEM track will develop skills in product development, funding strategy, pitch presentation, and market alignment.
