Savannah Energy Awards 100 Full Scholarships Through SEE-IT Programme, Expands Youth Empowerment Drive

Savannah Energy has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and educational access by awarding 100 full university scholarships through its flagship initiative—the Savannah Energy Education and Internship Training (SEE-IT) programme. Launched in 2023 by Accugas Limited, the company’s midstream subsidiary, SEE-IT is designed to support academically gifted but financially disadvantaged students from Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.

The programme provides a comprehensive scholarship package covering tuition, accommodation, study materials, and living expenses. Since its launch, 100 students have benefited—50 in 2023 and another 50 in 2024—enabling them to pursue undergraduate degrees at both public and private universities in diverse disciplines.

Aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), SEE-IT is a core component of Savannah Energy’s long-term sustainability strategy, which focuses on inclusive development and capacity building. Beyond financial support, recipients gain access to leadership training, personal development programmes, and a guaranteed internship placement with Savannah Energy upon graduation, equipping them with real-world experience and a competitive edge in the job market.

At a recent recognition ceremony, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, represented by former Education Commissioner Idongesit Etiebet, hailed the SEE-IT initiative as “transformative” and aligned with the state’s A.R.I.S.E. Agenda. He urged other corporate bodies to replicate similar initiatives to uplift education and environmental awareness across the region.

To broaden its reach, Savannah Energy expanded the SEE-IT programme in 2023 by launching Environmental Awareness Clubs in 20 secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State. These clubs educate students on sustainability and climate change. The programme culminated in an environmental quiz competition, where top-performing students received cash prizes and automatic admission into the SEE-IT scholarship scheme.

Commenting on the impact, Savannah Energy’s Managing Director in Nigeria, Pade Durotoye, highlighted that the initiative was created to remove financial barriers that prevent promising students from accessing higher education. “We believe education is the key to unlocking the potential of both individuals and their communities,” he said.

With over 1,400 applications submitted for the 2024 cycle, SEE-IT is rapidly gaining momentum as a model of how the private sector can make tangible contributions to solving Nigeria’s educational and environmental challenges. By merging academic scholarships with leadership development and sustainability education, Savannah Energy is helping to shape a generation of empowered, forward-thinking leaders.
