Access Holdings, UBA, Jaiz Bank Drive NGX to 23.09% YTD Gain

NGX Kicks Off Week with 0.43% Gain, Year-to-Date Return Hits 23.09%

The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) began the week on a positive note, recording a 0.43% gain on Monday as robust interest in industrial and banking stocks propelled the All-Share Index (ASI) from 126,149.59 to 126,689.54 points. This pushed the year-to-date (YTD) return to an impressive 23.09%.

Market capitalization followed suit, climbing from ₦79.803 trillion to ₦80.143 trillion, signaling sustained investor confidence in the Nigerian equities space.

Trading activity remained strong, with over 1.28 billion shares exchanged across 39,431 deals, amounting to a turnover of ₦32.204 billion.

Top performers in terms of volume and value included Access Holdings, Japaul Gold, AIICO Insurance, United Bank for Africa (UBA), and Jaiz Bank — all of which continue to enjoy strong investor demand.

So far, July has proven to be a bullish month for the NGX, delivering a 5.59% month-to-date return. Analysts attribute the rally to growing optimism surrounding corporate second-quarter earnings, improving macroeconomic indicators, and investor repositioning in fundamentally solid stocks.

Industrial and banking sectors remain the key drivers of momentum, supported by strategic positioning in high-dividend, blue-chip stocks. Access Holdings and UBA, in particular, are drawing strong institutional interest due to their large asset base, earnings consistency, and proven dividend track records.

Jaiz Bank is also gaining traction, especially among retail investors, pointing to a broader appetite for mid-tier financial stocks.

The current bullish trend is attracting steady capital inflows, reinforcing the resilience of the Nigerian equity market amid global volatility and domestic monetary policy shifts.

Market watchers remain optimistic about short-term performance, citing expectations of favorable half-year earnings results, dividend announcements, and clarity on interest rate direction.

Overall, the NGX’s sustained performance continues to reflect deepening investor interest in Nigeria’s risk assets and signals healthy capital formation within Africa’s largest economy.
