Africa Youth Negotiators Fellowship (AYNF) – Cohort 4 Now Open for Applications

The Africa Youth Negotiators Fellowship (AYNF) is a prestigious, capacity-building program designed to empower young Africans with the skills, knowledge, and exposure necessary to influence climate negotiations at national, regional, and global levels.

AYNF Fellows are not just observers—they are active participants in shaping climate governance. From contributing to behind-the-scenes negotiations at UN Climate Conferences (COP) to co-writing impactful policy documents and advising government delegates, fellows gain hands-on experience in real-world diplomacy.

About the Fellowship

Now in its fourth cohort, AYNF has grown into a premier continental initiative, committed to preparing the next generation of African climate leaders to drive meaningful policy change.

The 2025 Fellowship is implemented by the Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO) in partnership with EPA Ghana, UNICEF Ghana, and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN).

Program Structure

The fellowship runs in two main phases over four weeks:

 Phase 1: Foundational Training

  • Duration: 1 week

  • Format: In-person (Ghana) and virtual participation

  • Focus: Climate diplomacy, negotiation techniques, the UNFCCC system, and regional climate policy intersections

 Phase 2: Working Groups & Mentorship

  • Duration: 3 weeks

  • Format: Fully virtual

  • Focus: Mentorship, policy simulations, group collaboration, and thematic deep-dives aligned with African priorities for COP30 in Brazil

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the 2025 cohort, applicants must:

  • Be an African citizen aged 15–35

  • Demonstrate a passion for climate justice and diplomacy

  • Have an interest or background in national or international climate policy

  • Be available to fully participate in both phases

  • Be proficient in English (language of instruction)
