Apply Now: Africa Agri-Food Development Programme (AADP) Grants for Irish and African Agri-Food Businesses

The Africa Agri-Food Development Programme (AADP) invites applications from agri-food businesses in Ireland and 19 eligible African countries for two key funding opportunities aimed at supporting sustainable agri-food transformation across Africa.

1. Feasibility Study Grant

This grant supports early-stage projects that explore commercial viability and market opportunities to help transform Africa’s agri-food systems.

Open to Irish businesses and eligible African organisations.
Solo or joint applications are welcome.
Projects must aim to deliver sustainable and commercially viable concepts.

2. Full Commercial Project Grant

This grant is intended for advanced, partnership-based projects between Irish and African private-sector organisations.

Projects must be revenue-generating, scalable, and impactful.
Applicants must jointly develop proposals.
Initiatives should contribute to sustainable food systems and foster mutual trade between Ireland and Africa.

Eligible Applicants

All applicants must be agri-food businesses legally registered for at least 24 months in Ireland or one of the following 19 African countries:
Botswana, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Namibia, Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Eligible businesses may include:

Micro-enterprises, SMEs, or larger companies
Sole proprietors or cooperatives
Social enterprises, farming groups, or commercial farming networks
Partnerships and any other legal business structures

Proposal Requirements

All applications must:

Be commercial in nature and implemented in one or more eligible African countries
Align with Ireland’s development policy (A Better World) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Demonstrate the necessity of public funding to unlock or leverage additional financing
Show strong applicant suitability based on relevant experience and capacity
Include clear plans for knowledge-sharing and mutual trade between Ireland and Africa
Show evidence of good governance, financial management, and fraud prevention systems

Required Supporting Documents

Irish Tax Clearance Certificate (required for both Irish and African applicants)
Detailed project budget (including sources of funding, expenses, and equipment)
Project implementation timeline and collaboration plan
Any other documents as outlined in the application checklist

Note: Applicants for the Full Commercial Project Grant must independently secure their business partner. The Irish Government or AADP team does not provide matchmaking services.

Important Restrictions

AADP funding cannot be used for:

Weapons, tobacco, alcohol, or gambling-related ventures
Fossil fuel production
Projects contributing to deforestation or forest degradation
Businesses that violate human rights, environmental, labour, or anti-corruption standards
Non-compliance with animal welfare standards (as set by Ireland’s Department of Agriculture)
Capital expenditures in Ireland without prior written approval
