This prestigious program provides a unique opportunity for talented professionals from eligible Commonwealth countries to gain hands-on experience and develop advanced skills in their respective fields while based in the United Kingdom.

Program Overview

The Commonwealth Professional Fellowships are designed for professionals who are already working in their sectors and want to develop further by gaining practical experience in a UK host organization. The goal is to equip Fellows to bring about catalytic changes within their home communities and institutions.

Funding Amount: Up to £18,855, covering:

  • Monthly stipend

  • Return airfare

  • Visa fees

  • Warm clothing & arrival allowance

  • Conference or short course support

  • Disability support (if applicable)

Fellowship Development Themes

Applicants must align their fellowship goals with one of the following development themes:

  • Science and Technology for Development

  • Strengthening Health Systems and Capacity

  • Promoting Innovation and Entrepreneurship

  • Strengthening Global Peace, Security, and Governance

  • Strengthening Resilience and Response to Crises

  • Access, Inclusion, and Opportunity

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen or refugee of an eligible Commonwealth country or a British Protected Person

  • Be a permanent resident in a Commonwealth country

  • Have at least 5 years of full-time relevant work experience (excluding voluntary work)

  • Be currently employed and return to the same organization after the fellowship

  • Submit two references (one from their current employer)

  • Not have held a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship in the last 5 years

  • Be available to start the fellowship in February 2026

  • Not be undertaking academic research or courses (academic managers are eligible, not researchers)

Fellowship Benefits

Each selected Fellow will receive:

  • Return airfare to and from the UK

  • Visa fee reimbursement

  • Monthly stipend:

    • £2,104/month (standard)

    • £2,612/month (for London-based host organizations)

  • Arrival allowance up to £1,183.20 (includes warm clothing)

  • Up to £2,000 for approved short courses, conferences, or UK-based institutional visits

  • Disability support, if applicable, based on a needs assessment

Required Application Documents

Applicants will need to upload the following:

  • Passport or national ID scan

  • A 500-word personal statement explaining how your background drives your impact goals

  • A 500-word leadership/volunteering statement describing leadership experience and community engagement

  • Contact details for two referees, including your current employer

Important Dates

  • Fellowship Period: Starts February 2026, duration 6 weeks to 3 months
