The RES4Africa Foundation (R4A), in partnership with Strathmore University and the Enel Foundation, is excited to launch the inaugural edition of wAtt-Boost – Youth Power Start Up in Africa. This dynamic initiative is designed to empower early-stage and growth-stage startups in the renewable energy sector across the continent.
About the Program
wAtt-Boost is a tailored program combining pre-acceleration and acceleration tracks to support innovative African entrepreneurs and startups driving change in clean energy. The goal is to strengthen and scale renewable energy businesses, contributing to Africa’s sustainable development.
Selected participants will undergo intensive technical and business training, receive mentorship, gain networking opportunities, and benefit from visibility and fundraising support—all delivered in English.
Program Tracks
Pre-Accelerator Track
Designed for early-stage entrepreneurs and startups who are developing their ideas. Focus areas include:

Business plan development

MVP (Minimum Viable Product) creation

Initial market entry
Accelerator Track
Targeted at more advanced startups seeking scale and investment. Focus areas include:

Bankable product development

Team strengthening

Market validation

Client base expansion
Training Modules
Training includes:

NewGen Renewable Energy Accelerator – Led by IRENA with support from the Enel Foundation, running from June to July 2025.
-
RES4Africa Training – Focused on Africa’s evolving electricity markets.
Up to two team members per startup can participate in the training.
Monetary Prizes
Participants will compete for two €10,000 awards:

One for the best-performing Pre-Accelerator startup
-
One for the top Accelerator participant
These prizes aim to boost the most promising ventures with tangible financial support.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:

Be 18 to 35 years old
-
Have a solution addressing the African renewable energy market

Either be African citizens or have a startup registered in Africa
-
Have a registered startup operating for at least one year in areas such as:

Renewable energy

Electrification

AI in energy

Grids and infrastructure

Climate adaptation

Clean cooking

Electric mobility

Agrivoltaics

Be proficient in English (native speaker, CAE certification, or English-taught degree)
