Empowering Young Entrepreneurs: BEDCO Calls for Proposals from Basotho Youth

The Basotho Enterprises Development Corporation (BEDCO) is a government-owned agency established under the BEDCO Act No. 9 of 1980 (as amended). Its mission is to promote the growth of Basotho-owned enterprises and foster indigenous entrepreneurial skills across Lesotho.

To fulfill this mandate, BEDCO supports the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by offering:

• Business development support services

• Promotion of entrepreneurship across communities

• Incubation services to nurture startup growth

• Advocacy for MSME-friendly policies and regulations

• Improved access to finance and market opportunities

Eligibility Criteria

This call for proposals is open to Basotho youth aged 21 to 35 who meet the following requirements:

• Completion of COSC (Cambridge Overseas School Certificate), LGCSE (Lesotho General Certificate of Secondary Education), or higher

• Currently unemployed despite holding qualifications

• Strong interest in launching a business or growing an existing startup

Note: Proposals from early-stage businesses led by eligible youth are welcome, especially those seeking funding for expansion.

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be reviewed and selected based on:

• Innovation and originality of the idea

• Feasibility and sustainability of the business model

• A well-developed business case

Applicants must submit the following documents (total size not exceeding 20 MB):

• Certified copy of ID

• Certified copies of academic qualifications

• Curriculum Vitae (CV)

• Business documents (for existing startups)

• A comprehensive business plan
