Role Summary

We are seeking a proactive and experienced EHS Officer to support our Environmental Health & Safety programs. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with EHS regulations, promote a strong safety culture, mitigate operational risks, and champion sustainability initiatives within our operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor compliance with all local, national, and international EHS standards and company policies.

  • Identify and assess EHS risks, and propose mitigation measures across facilities and operations.

  • Lead investigations into incidents and near-misses, ensuring root cause analysis and effective corrective actions.

  • Develop and facilitate EHS training programs to enhance staff awareness and workplace safety practices.

  • Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and reviews to maintain a safe and compliant environment.

  • Collaborate with project teams and contractors to enforce project-specific EHS standards.

  • Organize safety campaigns and behavioural-based safety programs to foster a proactive EHS culture.

  • Maintain accurate EHS documentation, including incident reports, audit results, training records, and action plans.

  • Prepare and submit periodic reports to senior management, capturing key EHS metrics and insights.

  • Support the development of emergency response plans and participate in drills.

  • Coordinate health and wellness initiatives with the occupational health consultant.

  • Supervise office maintenance activities and ensure compliance with Permit to Work (PTW) procedures.

  • Partner with external regulatory agencies and stakeholders to ensure full compliance.

  • Contribute to internal audits and improvement initiatives across Oando’s operations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Process) or related field.

  • A Master’s degree is an added advantage.

  • 3–5 years’ relevant EHS experience, preferably in the oil & gas or energy sector.

  • Recognized EHS certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalents.

  • Membership in a professional body (e.g., ISPON, IOSH, NES, COREN, MNSE, IIRSM).

  • ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certification is desirable.

  • Strong understanding of Nigerian and global EHS laws and practices.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to travel for audits, inspections, and training as needed.

  • Effective communicator with internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage contractors and suppliers within EHS frameworks.

  • Collaborative and team-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
