Government Relations Specialist – OPay

Job Title: Government Relations Officer
Locations: Abuja (FCT) and Lagos (Onsite)
Job Overview
We are looking for dynamic and well-connected Government Relations Officers to strengthen OPay’s engagement with government agencies, regulators, and key stakeholders. The role will focus on regulatory compliance, policy monitoring, and advocacy to ensure OPay operates smoothly within Lagos and Abuja.
Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain productive relationships with government authorities, regulators, and other stakeholders.

Track, analyze, and interpret legislation, regulations, and policies that may affect OPay’s business.
-
Provide internal teams with regular updates and insights on policy and regulatory developments.
-
Work closely with Legal, Compliance, and Operations teams to align business objectives with regulatory expectations.
-
Prepare reports, briefing notes, and position papers for senior management.
-
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements at federal, state, and local levels.
-
Manage approvals, licenses, and permits needed for business operations.
-
Represent OPay at government/regulatory meetings, industry associations, and public hearings.
Requirements
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Political Science, Public Administration, International Relations, or related fields.
-
3–5 years of proven experience in government relations, regulatory affairs, or stakeholder management (preferably in fintech, banking, or financial services).
-
Strong knowledge of Nigeria’s regulatory and policy environment, particularly in fintech and payments.
-
Established network with government and regulatory agencies.
-
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
-
Ability to multitask and perform under pressure.
Preferred:
-
Previous experience in fintech, financial services, or telecommunications.

Familiarity with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulations.

Review market intelligence, data, and trends to identify tactical revenue opportunities.

Act as the Customer Champion in assigned territories, ensuring customer service excellence and enhanced sales through value-added partnerships.

Negotiate B2B agreements, including commissions, corporate contracts, PLBs, and JMFs.

Deliver sales targets and KPIs while managing expenditure budgets for maximum ROI.

Strengthen Qatar Airways’ brand presence by working closely with digital and marketing teams.

Build and maintain high-level relationships with key stakeholders, including governments, diplomatic missions, airports, and industry bodies.

Ensure compliance with company policies and represent Qatar Airways legally in assigned markets.
Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

Minimum of 7 years’ sales experience, with extensive commercial knowledge of the Nigerian market.

Strong background in airline sales, including use of airline business tools and product selling.
-
Proficiency in preparing reports on sales performance and market trends.
-
Excellent knowledge of GDS systems, ticketing, and travel industry sales.
-
Proven experience in planning, budgeting, and achieving revenue targets.
-
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide sales teams.
-
Demonstrated success in building and maintaining client and partner relationships.
-
Ability to analyze market and competitor activity to inform strategy.
