Job Title: Import Operations Officer

Position Overview:
We are looking for a diligent and experienced Import Officer to manage and streamline our import operations—from documentation and customs clearance to final delivery. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring timely, cost-effective, and compliant import processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee end-to-end import procedures including receipt and follow-up of Bills of Lading (BL) and relevant shipping documents.

  • Liaise with shipping lines, customs agents, and regulatory bodies to ensure efficient cargo clearance.

  • Handle all documentation and clearance for both air and sea freight.

  • Track and reconcile expenses such as container deposits, shipping costs, and demurrage charges.

  • Maintain up-to-date import records using Excel and internal systems.

  • Prepare and present reports on import performance, cost savings, and compliance.

  • Monitor compliance with all statutory regulations and internal policies.

  • Coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure seamless import operations.

  • Provide regular updates on shipment status and promptly resolve any import-related issues.

  • Analyze key performance indicators including cost control, demurrage reduction, and container deposit recovery.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering, Management, Economics, or a related field.

  • Membership in a recognized professional body is an added advantage.

  • Minimum of 4 years’ hands-on experience in import/logistics roles.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with supply chain software.

  • Sound knowledge of import regulations, including M-form processing and Nigerian Customs procedures.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Demonstrated integrity, transparency, and attention to detail.

  • Basic accounting knowledge for cost reconciliation and expense monitoring.
