African Diaspora Network Launches $25K Innovation Fund to Empower African Entrepreneurs

The African Diaspora Network (ADN), in partnership with Myriad USA, has unveiled the African Diaspora Innovation Fund (AfDIF)—a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering African and African-descendant entrepreneurs with financial support and global community engagement.

The fund was officially launched during the 10th anniversary of the African Diaspora Investment Symposium (ADIS25) at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., marking a significant step in ADN’s mission to deepen diaspora-driven investment in Africa’s development.

Despite Africa’s immense talent, cultural wealth, and natural resources, entrepreneurs across the continent continue to face systemic challenges such as limited access to capital, infrastructure deficits, and high youth unemployment. AfDIF addresses these barriers head-on by providing targeted funding and support to changemakers building scalable, socially impactful ventures.

Each year, AfDIF will award up to $25,000 in grant funding to as many as 12 high-potential ventures led by African or African-descendant founders. These grants go beyond financial assistance—they act as validation, helping recipients attract additional investors and gain access to global networks and mentorship opportunities.

What sets AfDIF apart is its inclusive, donor-driven model. While contributions are open to the public, donors who contribute $500 or more will have the opportunity to participate in selecting the final grantees. In a bold move to strengthen Nigeria’s small business ecosystem, the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) have signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at accelerating the growth and global competitiveness of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across the country.

A Strategic Partnership for Economic Transformation

This MoU formalizes a strategic alliance between NEXIM and SMEDAN, focusing on:

Export financing and access to global markets
Tailored financial products for SMEs
Capacity-building and training programs
Promotion of Made-in-Nigeria products internationally

The collaboration is expected to streamline trade facilitation and offer Nigerian SMEs the tools and support needed to thrive in international value chains.
