African Union Internship Programme 2025 – Now Open for Applications

The African Union (AU) Internship Programme offers young professionals and students an exceptional opportunity to enhance their academic experience and develop valuable professional skills. This full-time programme invites qualified individuals from diverse academic backgrounds to gain firsthand exposure to the inner workings of the AU and contribute to its mission.

Designed to provide early-career experience, the programme helps participants build professional networks, sharpen their skills, and understand the AU’s role in driving Africa’s development. Interns gain hands-on experience in a multicultural environment while offering valuable contributions to AU departments and initiatives. The programme also serves as a pipeline for grooming future African leaders.

Areas of Placement

Interns may be assigned to assist with administrative and technical support across various AU departments, including but not limited to:

Cabinet of the Chairperson & Deputy Chairperson
Office of the Director General
Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy & Sustainable Environment (ARBE)
Economic Development, Trade, Industry & Mining (ETIM)
Education, Science, Technology & Innovation (ESTI)
Infrastructure & Energy (IE)
Political Affairs, Peace & Security (PAPS)
Health, Humanitarian Affairs & Social Development (HHS)
Human Resources Management (HRM)
Information Systems, Conference Management, Protocol, and many more.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

Be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program OR have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
Be nationals of AU Member States.
Be full-time students or recent graduates.
Be proficient in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese).
Be no older than 32 years of age at the time of selection.
Uphold high standards of integrity and moral conduct.
Have no record of serious criminal offenses.
Prior work experience is not required.

Required Documents for Application

A motivation letter stating what the applicant hopes to gain from the internship.
A valid passport or national ID.
Certified academic certificates.
Updated curriculum vitae (CV).
Recommendation letter from the current institution of learning.
