We are currently recruiting a qualified Health and Safety Officer to join our team at the Okpella Plant in Edo State.

Role Overview

As a Health and Safety Officer, you will play a key role in executing and monitoring the implementation of the approved occupational safety program. You will help foster a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with safety regulations, conducting assessments, and promoting safety awareness across the plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor compliance with the plant’s occupational health and safety policies.

  • Promote a safety-first culture through training, awareness programs, and regular site inspections.

  • Keep accurate records of incidents, audits, drills, and safety performance metrics.

  • Conduct periodic safety assessments and identify areas for improvement.

  • Support HSE induction sessions for employees, contractors, and visitors.

  • Participate in safety drills and accident investigations; provide recommendations for corrective actions.

  • Liaise with internal departments and external regulatory agencies to ensure safety compliance.

  • Recommend and enforce the use of engineering controls, administrative measures, and PPE where necessary.

  • Assist in compiling information for compensation claims and reports.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • B.Sc in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.

  • Professional membership with HSE bodies such as IOSH or ISPON.

  • Certified training from bodies like the British Safety Council (BSC) or ISPON.

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

Skills & Competencies

  • Solid knowledge of safety legislation and industry standards.

  • Familiarity with cement plant operations is an added advantage.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

  • High attention to detail, accountability, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Team-oriented with a proactive approach to safety.
