About the MIT Kuo Sharper Center and the Foundry Fellowship

The MIT Kuo Sharper Center for Prosperity and Entrepreneurship was founded on the belief that market-driven entrepreneurship is key to achieving sustainable prosperity across global growth markets.

The Foundry Fellowship brings this vision to life by building a vibrant community of Africa-based entrepreneurs who are passionate about transforming the continent. Fellows are united by a shared goal: to foster innovation, move ideas and resources across borders, and shift Africa’s narrative to one of opportunity, abundance, and growth.

About the Fellowship

The Foundry Fellowship is an intensive eight-month program designed for accomplished entrepreneurs who are ready to lead Africa’s next wave of innovation and ecosystem development.

This fellowship supports leaders at a pivotal moment in their journey—those who have successfully scaled a business and are now seeking to drive systemic change across Africa through leadership, investment, or support initiatives.

Each year, 10–15 entrepreneurs are selected to participate in a highly curated, cohort-based experience that includes:

Leadership seminars
Coursework with MIT faculty
Experiential ecosystem tours across Africa

This transformative program equips fellows to expand their impact across the continent.

Who Should Apply?

You’re an ideal candidate if you:

Are based in Africa
Have founded and scaled a for-profit, innovation-driven company
Are at an inflection point in your leadership journey and preparing to:
- Transition into ecosystem leadership (e.g., launch a VC fund, start an accelerator, or work in policymaking)
- Found an ecosystem support organization

Fellowship Commitments

As a Foundry Fellow, you are expected to:

Communicate fluently in English (written and spoken)
Attend all virtual sessions and in-person ecosystem tours (each tour lasts 5–7 days, with one combined two-week tour in spring)
Cover your travel to/from tour locations (most on-ground costs are covered by the program)
Participate fully in all sessions and activities
Present your post-fellowship plans to peers and program supporters

Application Requirements

Your application must include:

Personal and contact information
Details about your entrepreneurial journey and company
Responses to essay questions about your leadership, ecosystem vision, and interest in the program
A professional resume
A 2-minute video (in English) highlighting your application
Two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your leadership (e.g., co-founders, board members, mentors)

Finalists will be invited to a panel interview.

In a bold move to strengthen Nigeria’s small business ecosystem, the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) have signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at accelerating the growth and global competitiveness of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across the country.

A Strategic Partnership for Economic Transformation

This MoU formalizes a strategic alliance between NEXIM and SMEDAN, focusing on:

Export financing and access to global markets
Tailored financial products for SMEs
Capacity-building and training programs
Promotion of Made-in-Nigeria products internationally

The collaboration is expected to streamline trade facilitation and offer Nigerian SMEs the tools and support needed to thrive in international value chains.

Empowering SMEs for Global Competitiveness

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Abba Bello, Managing Director/CEO of NEXIM Bank, emphasized the significance of this partnership in preparing Nigerian SMEs to compete globally, particularly under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
