Youth Local Government Accountability Fellowship (YLGA) 2025

The Youth Local Government Accountability Fellowship (YLGA) builds on the success of the Youth Civic Engagement Academy (YCEA) — a flagship program of the Spotlight for Transparency and Accountability Initiative.

This transformative fellowship is designed to strengthen youth civic engagement and participation in Nigeria, empowering the next generation of leaders to demand accountability, promote transparency, and drive positive change in their communities.

About the Fellowship

YLGA brings together young men, women, and persons with disabilities — including civic actors, grassroots activists, and members of civil society — from across Yobe State for:

A 2-day intensive Local Government Accountability Bootcamp

A 3-month leadership development program

Three months of one-on-one mentorship with seasoned sector experts

The design and implementation of community-based civic action projects

Participants will gain practical skills in:

Civic engagement & advocacy

Resource mobilization

Community organizing

Strengthening democratic participation at the grassroots level

Social accountability & transparency

Local government administration

Gender mainstreaming & inclusion

Community organizing for action

Effective communication & storytelling

Building and sustaining networks & coalitions

Program Support

The Youth Local Government Accountability Fellowship is supported by the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (NYFF), reflecting a shared commitment to:

Advancing youth leadership and activism

Driving outcome-oriented policy engagement

Promoting inclusive resource allocation

Building capacity for long-term national development

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

Be a resident of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, or Yobe State

Be 18–29 years old

Show a genuine interest in fostering social accountability

Have basic knowledge or experience in civic engagement and local government operations

Commit to the 9-month intensive program

Benefits for Fellows

Selected fellows will receive:
