Ondo State Launches N1.2 Billion Cash Support Scheme for Low-Income Families

In a bid to ease economic hardship and uplift vulnerable households, the Ondo State Government has rolled out a fresh phase of its Conditional Cash Transfer initiative, disbursing N1.2 billion to 16,255 beneficiaries across all 18 local government areas.

The programme was formally launched on October 11, 2024, by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the Akure South Local Government Secretariat. It forms part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope agenda and is executed through the National Social Investment Programme Agency, in partnership with the state.

Each beneficiary will receive N75,000, paid in three monthly instalments of N25,000 via specially issued Renewed Hope Debit Cards. Governor Aiyedatiwa described the initiative as a vital step in boosting household income at the grassroots level and fostering economic resilience.

“Today marks another bold step in our dedication to improving the well-being of our people,” he said. “This programme is designed not only to provide financial relief but to restore dignity and promote self-reliance among our most vulnerable citizens.”

This round significantly expands on the November 2024 disbursement, which reached 8,637 individuals with N647 million. The governor thanked President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development for sustaining the initiative.

Governor Aiyedatiwa urged beneficiaries to spend the funds wisely — prioritising essential family needs, small businesses, and sustainable income-generating ventures.

Also present at the launch was the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, who praised the governor’s inclusive leadership and alignment with national poverty alleviation goals.

With the first instalment already being processed, officials confirmed that all recipients are expected to receive their initial payments by the end of October 2024.

This latest intervention underscores Ondo State’s commitment to inclusive growth, social protection, and long-term economic empowerment for low-income families.
