Position: Senior Trust & Safety Policy Manager
Location: Remote (Nigeria)
Reports to: Senior Manager, Trust & Safety
Job Type: Full-Time

The Role

We’re seeking a Senior Trust & Safety Policy Manager to strengthen safety, equity, and integrity across Wikimedia’s projects and communities. You’ll help shape and implement internal Trust & Safety policies while collaborating with global stakeholders to ensure alignment with Wikimedia’s values and community needs.

This role requires a mix of policy expertise, cross-cultural collaboration, and a strong understanding of online community health. You’ll also play a key part in rolling out the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) and supporting our volunteers in upholding respectful participation across all Wikimedia platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the review, development, and refinement of internal Trust & Safety policies.

  • Collaborate across departments to align policy with strategy, risk, and community impact.

  • Support global volunteer communities in applying the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC).

  • Provide guidance and training to ensure fair, consistent enforcement of safety policies.

  • Participate in 24/7 emergency response rotations, including escalating serious incidents to authorities when necessary.

  • Contribute to confidential case reviews and risk assessments for new products or initiatives.

  • Foster partnerships with international communities and working groups (e.g., U4C).

  • Develop resources and documentation to support safe, inclusive participation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s with 3+ years, or equivalent experience.

  • Proven experience managing and implementing policy frameworks, ideally within digital or community-driven spaces.

  • Strong critical thinking, risk evaluation, and decision-making skills.

  • Experience engaging with multilingual and multicultural online communities.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across diverse teams and cultures.

  • Ability to work independently, while thriving in a mission-driven, values-oriented team.

  • Fluency in English; proficiency in another major language (e.g., Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Mandarin) is a strong advantage.

  • Familiarity with open-source, free knowledge, or digital governance ecosystems is a plus.
